Drill Down --

 Computerization

A small specialty clinic should definitely be computerized.  But, the choice of computer system and the extent to which the computer plays a role in the daily business of the practice is not a "slam dunk".

Basically computer software programs are available for four primary operating systems.

  • UNIX and variations
  • DOS
  • Microsoft Windows
  • Apple MacIntosh

Once a clinic begins to depend heavily on the computer system they need to have solutions to many potential problems.

Recently an interesting product has come on the market that allows you to attach a second keyboard, monitor and mouse to a computer running Windows 95 or 98.  Check for more information at applica.com.  Be aware that software licensing issues may be affected by such a configuration.
